A Covid-19 Lesson: Some Seriously Ill Patients Can Be Treated at Home To ease pressure on hospitals, Northwell Health brought medical workers, oxygen tanks and intravenous equipment into patients’ homes.

...So-called wraparound home care services were created, on the fly, by Northwell Health to deal with the surge in coronavirus cases that New York experienced this spring. Now this model may help relieve health systems in the Sun Belt and other parts of the United States, where rising numbers of cases are putting extraordinary pressure on hospitals, filling intensive care units and sending providers scrambling to hire extra nurses and secure medical supplies.

Economic and Population Issues in Somerset County, Maryland and the Broader Eastern Shore

The town of Crisfield was impacted heavily by Superstorm Sandy.  Going into its second year after Sandy's landfall, only one third of the houses impacted in Crisfield (the most heavily impacted town on the Eastern Shore) have been restored.  Infrastructure remains fragile and the economy, although temporarily improved to some degree by modest recovery funds, continues in a fragile state under long-term decline.  Overall, Crisfield's population continues in a long-term decline after being the second most prosperous city in Maryland during the late 1800s and early 1900s, before its fisheries largely collapsed with the decline in the Chesapeake Bay's ecosystem.

Rooftop Farm in New York City Grows 50,000 Pounds of Organic Produce Per Year

“That view behind me is not a painted backdrop!” said Geoff Lawton to the camera. But the view looked great from where I was standing. Brooklyn Grange is a rooftop farm with a magnificent view looking over the Manhattan skyline.

Sitting on a concrete roof, totaling 2.5 acres and producing more than 50,000 pounds of organically-grown vegetables each year, you need to walk its length to appreciate how vast this rooftop garden truly is in scale.

We had been given one hour to film this place. The sun was setting. We were in the “magic hour” to film and needed to hurry. There was a lot to do.

Geoff walked down the narrow lanes of planted vegetables. Four to six inches of dirt was all the plants were allowed to grow in—very well drained dirt that resembled sharp river sand. It didn’t look like a normal loamy soil to my untrained eye.
